Wordshelf Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 21, 2025

Sourse Labs LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Wordshelf mobile application (the “App”) and related services. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use the App.

By using Wordshelf, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect different types of information to provide and improve Wordshelf, including but not limited to:

1.1. Information You Provide

  • Account information: such as your email address, username, and password (if applicable).
  • User content: such as the words you save, posts you share, books you add, likes, comments, and other activity within the app.
  • Profile details: such as your display name, profile photo, and any optional bio or information you choose to share.

1.2. Automatically Collected Information

  • Usage data: such as your app interactions, searches, reading activity, and engagement patterns.
  • Device data: including device model, operating system, and unique identifiers.
  • Log data: such as IP address, crash logs, and diagnostic information for debugging and performance improvement.

1.3. Analytics and Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party tools to operate and improve Wordshelf:

  • Supabase — for data storage, authentication, and backend infrastructure.
  • Mixpanel — for analytics, engagement tracking, and performance measurement.
  • OpenAI (ChatGPT API) — for generating or enhancing definitions, memory aids, and language content. OpenAI includes automated content moderation filters to block explicit, violent, or otherwise objectionable text before it reaches users.

These providers may collect information sent by your device, including but not limited to cookies, unique device identifiers, or other tracking technologies consistent with their own privacy policies.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected data for purposes including but not limited to:

  • Providing, maintaining, and improving Wordshelf's features and functionality.
  • Personalizing your experience, such as showing relevant definitions or reading insights.
  • Measuring engagement, retention, and usage patterns through analytics.
  • Communicating optional updates, news, or educational insights (if you opt in).
  • Detecting, preventing, and addressing technical issues, misuse, or policy violations.
  • Complying with legal obligations.

3. Sharing and Disclosure

We value your privacy and will not sell your personal data. We may share information only in the following cases:

  • With service providers who assist in operating Wordshelf (e.g., Supabase, Mixpanel, OpenAI).
  • For analytics or research to help us improve features and performance.
  • For legal reasons if required by law, regulation, or government request.
  • With your consent or at your direction, for example, when you make a post public or interact with other users.

Certain app activity — such as your username, saved words, or posts — may become publicly visible within the Wordshelf community in the future, including but not limited to your word history, reading progress, or likes. We will provide notice before implementing any significant changes to privacy visibility.

4. User-Generated Content and Community Guidelines

Wordshelf allows users to create and share content (such as posts, saved words, and comments).

To keep our community safe and compliant with App Store policies:

  • We maintain a zero tolerance policy for objectionable, abusive, or offensive content.
  • Users may not post material that is hateful, discriminatory, violent, sexually explicit, illegal, misleading, or otherwise harmful.
  • We use automated filters, OpenAI's moderation systems, and manual review to detect and remove such content.
  • Users can flag or report objectionable content directly within the app.
  • Users can block other users whose behavior they find abusive or unwanted.
  • All reports are reviewed and acted upon within 24 hours, and offending users may have their content removed or accounts suspended.

By using Wordshelf, you agree to abide by these community standards. Violation of these terms may result in content removal or permanent account suspension.

5. AI-Generated Responses and Moderation

Some content or recommendations within Wordshelf are powered by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including the OpenAI ChatGPT API.

These AI systems are designed with content moderation rules and filters that automatically prevent explicit, violent, or otherwise harmful language from being displayed.

We may also perform additional filtering and human moderation to ensure AI-generated content aligns with Wordshelf's educational purpose and community guidelines.

AI-generated content should not be considered factual or guaranteed to be accurate. Users are responsible for reviewing and interpreting AI-provided information responsibly.

6. Cookies and Tracking

We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to monitor app activity and improve your experience. You can adjust your device or browser settings to refuse cookies, though some features may not function properly.

7. Data Storage and Security

Your data is securely stored using Supabase infrastructure and encrypted in transit.

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, but no system is completely secure. You use the app at your own risk.

8. Your Choices and Rights

You can:

  • Access or update your account information within the app.
  • Delete your account or request data removal by contacting us at sourselabs@gmail.com.
  • Opt out of analytics or marketing communications at any time.

We will process such requests within a reasonable timeframe.

9. Children's Privacy

Wordshelf is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

If we learn that a child has provided personal information, we will delete it promptly.

10. Future Features and Changes

We may expand our features to include, but not limited to:

  • Advertising or sponsorships to support the app.
  • Public visibility of certain user activity (e.g., posts or word lookups).

If these changes occur, we will update this Privacy Policy and notify users as required.

11. Enforcement and Compliance

We take reports of abusive or objectionable content seriously.

If you encounter such content, please use the in-app “Report” feature or contact sourselabsapp@gmail.com.

We review all reports and take appropriate action — including removing content or suspending accounts — within 24 hours of receiving a valid report.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically.

Your continued use of Wordshelf after any updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
